Asparagus Piss Raindrop are a crypto conceptual science fiction anti
climax band dedicated to pushing beyond all reasonable limits what live
music performance can be. APR is formed from a dreadful, ever-expanding
pool of performer / composer / improvisers from the Glasgow experimental
music scene. The group‘s work arises from the questions; How can we do
things otherwise? What musical forms arise from and inform our daily
experience? Performances typically draw on such things as recycled
children’s games, group therapy, shapeshifting, declarations of
ridiculous texts, geology, architectural intervention, gender theory,
site specificity and slug reproduction. APR have been commissioned to
produce work by Tectonics Glasgow, Tectonics Iceland, Transmission
Gallery Glasgow, Association CRIC in France and Supernormal Festival in
Oxfordshire.<br /> <br /> Asparagus Piss Raindrop is a buncha B-sides on heavy rotation<br /> <br /> …stands alone with four heads, eight arms and a six pack<br /> <br /> …runs for office on a platform made of mud.<br /> <br /> …jacks into the darkside with dancing shoes and hair tonic.<br /> <br /> …shows up for a teach-in at the drive-thru<br /> <br /> …runs amok for uncanny incantations.</span></span> </span></div>

hits unprecedented volumes. With a constant drone of wind noise, she
whisks all her sounds to crushing peak. What's so powerful about
Thompson's set is she doesn't give a shit; she doesn't care that it's

<span class="post_content">.........</span><br />
If this jam put excitement and encouragement into the audience’s blood, Edinburgh’s <span style="color: magenta;"><strong>Rhian Thompson</strong> </span>concluded
the bill by putting a chill back into it with an eerie piece complete
with indistinct voices (wound and rewound live on a handheld tape
recorder), klaxons, and doll rattles. With the daylight fading fast
outside of the window, Thompson used these sounds, supported by
synthesised drones and pedal notes, in an interrupted and less
repetitive way; not allowing any certainty to establish itself in the
mind of the listener. She concludes this instrumental, reaching the
maximum tension, by sustaining a loud high-pitch feedback, defeating
some listeners into shielding their cocleas. It has been another
delectable edition to the history of Davies’ Hauskonzerts for sure.<br />

Callan first took shape in 2005 during a short tour of Scotland’s
Western Isles, whilst DJing in out-of-the-way places with bare bones
kit, and the name itself stems from the Scots-Gaelic for ‘noise’ or
‘clamour’. Having relocated to Sweden and then Poland soon afterwards,
the return to Newcastle upon Tyne in 2010 saw Callan exhumed, along with
the murmurings of awkwardly bonny sound you might hear today or the
next day. The current set-up generally consists of little more than a
portable turntable, an effects pedal and some iffy cables, and has
featured at events as wide-ranging as those of Subterranean, A Better
Noise, GNAW and Tusk Mini, as well as the Hauskonzert series. <br /> <br /> RHODRI DAVIES<br /> <br />
Rhodri Davies plays harp, electric harp, live-electronics and builds
wind, water, ice, dry ice and fire harp installations. He has released
four solo albums: Trem, Over Shadows, Wound Response and An Air Swept
Clean of All Distance. <br /> <br /> His regular groups include: a duo with
John Butcher, Cranc, HEN OGLEDD with Richard Dawson and Common Objects.
He has performed, recorded or collaborated with the following artists:

free jazz anarchy from the Jooklo Duo - who go toe to toe with
Manc/American Guitar assault of Chalaque in a freewheeling quartet at
Henry’s Cellar Bar. Jooklo Duo, made up of Virginia Genta and David

alongside the likes of Chris Corsano, Paul Flaherty, Bill Nace, Daniel
Carter, Thurston Moore and Makoto Kawabata, amongst others. A whirlwind
of Ayler horns at his most frenzied, but with full on punk

of Nick Mitchell, also head honcho of the excellent Golden Lab Records.

out-there weirdos Acrid Lactations. As well as some sax and axe
debauchery from Tina Krekels from FUA & Grant Smith of Muscletusk. A

<br />
<b>CKDH – <i>Yr Putrid Eyeballs</i></b><br />
<br />
An exceptional Black Metal logo always draws me in and the singular
art work in this oversized cardboard CD case makes this a hard disc to
ignore.<br />
<br />
Razor-sharp tones (a high C#?) open ‘Your Putrid Eyeballs’ sliding
over each other like greased jade. These thin green needles puncture
the twilight (it’s getting dark as I type) and I notice that swinging my
head from side-to-side makes them dance gently in the middle of the
room. A brown and granular wash (think coffee grounds) plays a
twin-tone melodie as liquid hydrogen rushes down a spiral staircase
leaving toxic steam in its wake. The between-track silence is uncanny.<br />
<br />
Beautiful austerity.<br />
<br />
‘Fungal Air Creeping Adders’ jams on these strange radiophonic tones
further, bunching them up to create a ripple, a rhythm and a steady
bass-line crackle. It all sounds strangely contemporary and the sort of
thing I imagine is played in an inner-city night club shortly before
kicking out time; the feeling of dread and alienation is real. An
occasional metallic scratching uncovers itself gradually, steadily
becoming unnerving, unsettling…like something is about to shear off and
screech out the stereo covered in nasty blisters. And then…just before
the end a beautiful thing happens and two sine-wave tones modulate in
just the right way to create a third tone, a harmony that sings like an
angel. It only lasts a second but becomes the grit in the oyster, the
seldom seen hint of violet in a rainbow.<br />
<br />
All the more delicious for its rarity.<br />

"...They have made this amazing recording though, released on Total Vermin as #74 and it is pretty much like being in the belly of a giant buzzing fly with an Indonesian percussion orchestra practicing inside of a sheet metal building that the fly is circling around in trying to figure out what to do next. Its not about escape, its not panicked, really. Maybe its about roller derby, it kind of has that vibe too. I have no idea what these instruments are but there are some electronic sounds, and I think some sticks. After a certain point its like Albert Ayler comes on by for a visit and they tie him up in the kitchen. Breakfast music." - <a href="http://multiplesystemsofevents.wordpress.com/?s=hockyfrilla" target="_blank">Jorge</a><br />

“Some archival recordings from this annoyingly reclusive duo from
Edinburgh. You may well know Rhian (aka CKDH) from doing time in Giant
Tank, jamming with Kuupuu, looking fierce in The Barbarians, and she was
recently seen performing as part of Smegma at the Smell in LA. Dora
Doll was a founding numbnut of Prick Decay/Decaer Pinga, has performed
in Smell & Quim and terrorized many a young man at 'noise' shows in
her time. “Spirit & Spector” is a miasma of electrical smoke, the
sound of wheezing subterranean light bulbs & a bucket load of
mechanical schlub worms all wrapped up in the collapsing essence of
muscled women. It all sounds broken to me, but hey you don't need no
opulence, pauper.” – Dylan Nyoukis. <br />

'Murky electro-paralysis that moves in slow-spooling codes of ugh through
barely-illuminated landscapes of blood, mud and aggressively formulated
minimalism.' - <a href="http://www.volcanictongue.com/artists/browse_all/8030" target="_blank">Volcanic Tongue </a><br />
<br />
'Hockyfrilla makes some amazing continuous sounds and noises. Lots of plastic toys are mixed in free interplay with percussive wooden objects from non-western cultures. Perhaps this is Inuit technology at work here. There is certainly a machine like quality to some of the rolling continuities found in the temporal abyss of Hockyfrilla. This is also very well expressed on the disk Vulpes Vulpes...<br />
'This disk is really really good, especially if you like mind melting washes of harmonic feedback and tape echo-esque friction.' - <a href="http://multiplesystemsofevents.wordpress.com/?s=hockyfrilla" target="_blank">Jorge</a><br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
I have to admit to a great ignorance for much of what
happens in Brighton ... The
scrape of Mr Nyoukis’s work has been there in the background seeping its way
into the grey matter almost by osmosis but as for hard matter then no, none. At
least now I have these two to go on. Hockyfrilla being Nyouki’s sister Dora
Doll ably abetted by sole other female companion Rhian. A female duo then and
how short are we of them? The more females inhabiting the male dominated
experimental, noise drone arena the happier I am. Thus I am now in a state of
half lidded, all knowing bliss having bathed the ears first in the twenty
minutes or so of Vulpes Vulpes and then Feld Mose.<o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt;">Catching
up is never a chore and discovering that Dora Doll and Rhian make a kind of
dying equipment, all falling apart, scuzzy, no-fi drone in which everything
disintegrates into its constituent parts [at least on here it does] fills me
the kind of joy equalled to that of discovering that your digs in Brighton has
a quirky Belgian restaurant across the road that sells Bruges Zot. Three tracks
and twenty minutes that scour the drone landscape with an array of dry joints,
feedback, rustling and general murkiness all of which produces some kind of
altered consciousness in those od-ing on Sussex ale. It must be the pebble
beaches or the genial atmosphere that contributes to it all but I’m a fan. - <a href="http://idwalfisher.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Idwal Fisher</a></span><!--EndFragment--><br />

Summer Trance (Total Vermin)</h4>

<br />
'Its called ckdh “summer trance” and is also released by the
ubiquitous Total Vermin (this time, number 47). This is totally my cup
of tea. Strong, black, with insects in it. The second side begins
with scratching and a feedback <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_feedback" title="feed">Larson-squalk</a> that makes me think of Hockyfrilla, thats why I thought it might be the same' - <a href="http://multiplesystemsofevents.wordpress.com/?s=hockyfrilla" target="_blank">Jorge</a><br />
<br />
'This is Hockyfrilla and Barbarians' Rhian Thompson's summer album.
That being the case, I can only assume that her aestival activities
consist of whiting out and falling into paranoid, delusional sleep under
bushes in the ornamental gardens of power stations. Insectoid-acoustic
scrape and scratch and a dissonant cloud of generator drone unsettle
and disturb. The more I listen, the surer I am that it is her best work
so far, and imbued with a certain beauty... but not the kind that I'd
ever like to look at.' - <a href="http://totalvermin.blogspot.co.uk/2010/12/total-vermin-47-ckdh-summer-trance-c41.html" target="_blank">Total Vermin</a><br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">'..delivering up waves of shingle shimmer,
sine wave float and hard beans slowly rolling around a large drum. The longest
track on here, the opener, dissolves into silence for the best part of five
minutes only to emerge on the second track in the kind of high pitched whistles
that bemuse dogs. For the most part, the rest of Feld Mose consists of barely
heard sine waves in to which the mandible chatter of insects is folded, factory
hum and the drilling of sensitive teeth. It’s a winning combination.' - <a href="http://idwalfisher.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Idwal Fisher</a></span><!--EndFragment--><br />
